The rollercoaster that is 2020

I think that it’s safe to say that 2020 has been a complete rollercoaster for everyone, both personally and professionally. Our industry has been pushed into the most uncomfortable place imaginable and yet we’re all still firing with a determination that COVID won’t be stopping hospitality.


From weeks of closure in lockdown through to reopening and reinventing business, we have been amazed at the resilience of our clients and their teams. Without our amazing clients, there would be no Bums on Seats, and despite being challenged with trading in a global pandemic, the support we have received has been truly humbling.


In the last month, our client’s pubs, bars & restaurants have been given even more guidelines to adhere to. With the rule of 6 coming into force along with the 10 pm curfew, our sector is in a fight for survival. I know that the hospitality industry will bounce back, but I do understand that Christmas is going to look very different this year – and the new guidelines bring a score of operational challenges with them.  

We stand shoulder to shoulder with our clients and will support the sector by offering our expertise through webinars & online discussion panels. This month, we have a ‘Mini Masterclass’ in association with the Institute of Hospitality. We’ve also teamed up with Propel for ‘Christmas Out of the Box’ - a webinar to support Operational teams through a safe and successful Christmas. 


We now have 18 enthusiastic & energetic team members – 14 of which are specialists in sales. In addition to other talented individuals, Ed Christmas joins us from DesignMyNight as Head of Operations & Commercial. He’s an absolute superstar with a growing track record and we are lucky to have him on board! 


I am also delighted that Paul Pavli (Ex MD of Punch Taverns, top strategic advisor and all-round Hospitality Hero) has joined Bums on Seats as Non-Exec Director.

We are also the first company to have our sales training workshop; M.I.R.A.C.L.E. endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality.

This training will transform small or large businesses focused on securing pre-booked sales and retaining customer loyalty. Bums on Seats are also donating 5% of every place taken on the training to the homeless charity ‘Only a Pavement Away’. 


Bums on Seats has also been nominated for Industry-led awards, including Best New Business (Best Business Women Awards 2020) and B2B Customer Experience (Customer Experience Awards 2020). This is a reflection of confidence and approval in both our wonderful clients and the Bums Family! 


Bringing customers back to hospitality is now one of the greatest challenges the industry has ever faced. It’s more important than ever for businesses to deliver pre-booked sales, grow brand awareness, and promote customer loyalty. I am proud of our success to date in bringing greater profitability to pubs, restaurants and bars despite the major challenges. Our auditing, training, sales plans, hospitality sales consultancy & innovation in practice – including the use of social media and flexible pricing strategies for smaller businesses- will ensure customers return again and again to your venues.
